Classifying Animals
There are at least five million species of animals on Earth, and some scientists believe there could be double that number. Animals have predictable characteristics at different stages of development. There are many different groups of animals. One way to group animals is to organize them by similar properties, or characteristics such as their method of mobility, their structures, their method of obtaining food, or their production of young. This process is called classification.
